Koo Kool Aid

Have you noticed that when the country is in turmoil we are all Americans but when things are great you are Black? Don’t you have Grandparents, Fathers, and Brothers who have fought in wars and when they came back they are not part of the Band Of Brothers. Isn’t it funny that when the country is in a stressful situation we are shouted down not to talk about our issues and think about the country as a whole. Do you really believe when they say people hate our way of life that it’s the truth? Do you really think when other people from other countries hate Americans do you really think they hate you and me, Black People?

Some if not all of us buy into the Shit the media spits out like we were included in the plan to make things better or the diabolical plan to make things worse. Some of us can’t control wanting to separate from the way people view us that we are willing to run and contradict each other just so we can be seen as intelligent or partisan. Some of us are willing to reach our hand so far out in fellowship that we hide our true selves to accommodate others. Some of us can blatantly see racism but instead of recognizing it for what it is  we call it ignorance. Some of us just want to avoid the truth so much that even when it hurts you personally you are willing to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Sometimes I believe we have just drunk the Kool Aid but realistically I know we haven’t. Some of us have just chosen that real life is so ugly that they deal with it through self delusion. We dive head first into that other life, the one we see in our dreams, the one we feel if enough people try, this Utopia will come into being. The dream if I work hard and play by the rules people will see the true me.

I meet people like this everyday all the time who just don’t want to see what’s right in front of them. When I was in Law School I had a talk with a Black guy who asked me “Do you think that Black people just want to see Racism?” He went on to tell me he has accomplished so much in his life and just chose to ignore the ignorance. So I responded to him just because you ignore it or call it ignorance doesn’t mean it isn’t there. One of my favorite Tarot cards shows a soldier in a house and an approaching army is coming over he countryside. So he felt he could just pull down the shade and the problem would disappear. My little neice does this also when she thinks the world dissapears when she covers her eyes.

This self delusion dream world some create has real consequences. Some follow certified crazy people like jim jones and literally drink the Kool Aid in an attempt to escape this ugly life. Some want to disappear so much they isolate themselves and chose only to be around other people who isolate themselves too and welcome them into their compound. Some of us are so spiritual we try to concentrate only on God and go to church as much as possible until we somewhat force church to become our reality.

Don’t run and hide, or cover your face, or move to France. C’mon you can deal with it. You aren’t crazy enough to drink the Kool Aid so don’t be crazy enough to dream up a world where you drink the Kool Aid.

Solution: It is what it is,  just know we are not the cause of the problems of the world. We weren’t included in the plans that caused people to want to kill them. We are not seen by most other races in this world as being the focus of their hate, in fact if you travel more you will find out that our issues are well known the world over. I know it’s no fun being on this side but don’t fool yourself into believing that you can create a world in which this ugly life doesn’t exist.
